What is the shelf life of commercial envelopes?

The shelf life of commercial envelopes—especially gummed #10 window envelopes used in mailing equipment—is typically 12 to 18 months under proper storage conditions.

How close can a perforation be to a fold?

Short answer: Keep the perforation at least 1/8″ (3 mm) from a fold on text-weight papers, and 3/16″–1/4″ (5–6 mm) on cover stocks.  Any closer risks cracking at the fold or the piece tearing prematurely.
